star rating  Discriminated against!! Avoid if you are medically exempt from wearing a face mask... we rang ahead to book a table for myself, 2 young children (age 3 and 1) and... read more my 70 year old disabled mother, arrived on time to an empty car park and totally empty bistro (other than staff) we were told that we could not enter the building at all unless we wore a mask... despite being medically exempt as it was their “company policy” we were told we could sit outside and walk through the side gate if we wanted and also use the outside portaloo... but could not enter the building!! We obviously stated we did not want to sit outside with two small children as it was windy and cold! Total discrimination and treated like second class citizens for being medically exempt from wearing a mask, despite the place having zero customers, plenty of space to walk to our table without coming into contact with staff... who would then be taking our order anyways at the table without our masks on??? When questioning this decision we were simply told “sorry you feel this way”. We left and went to The Old Mill at ferryhill and it was delicious and far better, friendly service with zero discrimination.
We have eaten at the aviator bistro on many occasions and have always recommended it, never again will I step foot in the place after being treated like that and totally discriminated against. The manager could not of cared less about our custom and offered very little in the form of a sincere apology. Total disgrace, terrible customer service. No wonder it was empty. Have previously been back during covid and was allowed to walk through the building to seat outside (when indoor dining was not allowed) and the side gate had a big padlock on it, on telling the manager this, she simply repeated the rehersed line “its our company policy to keep staff safe.”
